I've only researched it for half an hour and if what I have read is true yes he certainly wrote things and held beliefs in his early life that would make him a highly questionable figure for "hero" status.   • How much of a net positive influence was he?
  • Did he die a racist? (a Guardian printed article says “Later he got more enlightened”?)
  • That list of characters can be “hero” status OR “big respect”.

I think Hero is quite a fictional word but I like it because it has a magical inspirational quality. I think every person on that list has probably done or said things in their past that are the opposite of what a hero would do.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world” is a must for every human being in my opinion.
