The more you educate yourself about history, about foreign policy and about what’s omitted from mainstream media, the quicker you can see straight through the sham that mainstream media is. It’s ultimately controlled by the rich, by advertisers and by governments. It serves the interests of the elite. There are alternatives:

  1. RNIF - Daily breaking news and media. Their RSS feed is pretty good.
  2. The Real News - A non-profit news and documentary network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism.
  3. TV.OneWorld - A unique public platform for filmmakers, video journalists, NGO’s and just about anyone with a video camera and an interest in social issues.
  4. UK News from OneWorld UK - Covering poverty, human rights, and the environment - the issues too often neglected in the mainstream media.
  5. Indymedia UK - A network of individuals, independent and alternative media activists and organisations, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues.
  6. BBC5.tv - Not actually a part of the British Broadcasting Corporation but a really encouraging UK based independent production collective, comprised of individuals committed to progressive journalism and the observance of truth.
  7. Undercurrents - An independent UK media organisation.
  8. International Independent Media Center - An International Media Organisation.
  9. DvRepublic.org - A project of the Black Filmmaker Foundation. They use the Internet and New Media technology to connect this community and promote socially concerned, entertainment driven filmmaking.
  10. Conscious Video Network - featuring some excellent video interviews on consciousness and enlightenment. Recommended subscription through itunes or RSS.
  11. Throw Away Your Telescreen! - video blog with documentaries, lectures and interviews following a different editorial line to the mainstream.
